In October of 2018, fire destroyed the administration building and the library at HLIS pictured above. Governor Ipatas then stepped in as interim board chair for the school board, created an interim school board, got permission from Bishop David Piso of the Gutnius Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea to take over the support of the school and pledged over a million kina to rebuild the destroyed building. Subsequent construction efforts led to the establishment of a new administration building. Pictures in the following gallery tell the story.
The Girl’s Dormitory built in 2008 was also destroyed by fire early in 2019. It was also re instructed in the later part of 2019 and 2020. The pictures below tell the story from the old through the 2020 construction to the new building.
